Cathodic Protection

Cathodic protection (CP) is a technique to control the corrosion of a metal surface by making that surface the cathode of an electrochemical cell. Cathodic protection systems are most commonly used to protect buried or submerged steel structures, water and fuel pipelines, storage tanks, steel pier piles, ships, offshore oil platforms and onshore oil well casings. ELK Engineering cathodic protection systems are designed for each individual application and we get it right the first time. Improperly designed or installed cathodic protection most often results in accelerated corrosion failures due to hydrogen embrittlement or current reversal. Cathodic protection is also an effective method of preventing stress corrosion cracking.

ELK’s highly qualified staff includes both registered engineers and NACE International certified specialists and technicians with training and experience which enables us to assist clients in choosing the correct application of cathodic protection technology. Our specialists have designed systems to operate and control corrosion in virtually every environment where cathodic protection presents a viable solution. Our extensive knowledge of the operating parameters and long-term performance characteristics of system components allows us to choose the most appropriate systems to achieve the technical objectives, while carefully considering the client’s economic requirements.
