Cathodic Protection
Cathodic protection (CP) is a technique to control the corrosion of a metal surface by making that surface the cathode of an electrochemical cell. Cathodic protection systems are most commonly used to protect underground or submerged steel structures, water and fuel pipelines, storage tanks, steel pier piles, ships, offshore oil platforms and onshore oil well casings. The incorrect application of cathodic protection can accelerate a corrosion failure. Trust your infrastructure to the company who will get it right the first time. Cathodic protection is also an effective method of preventing stress corrosion cracking.

Corrosion Engineering
ELK Engineering conducts corrosivity analysis and provides corrosion control systems with the goal of assisting architects and engineers in the design of structures that both stand the test of time and minimize operation and maintenance costs. Long-term and economical performance of a well-designed structure is largely dependent upon the ability of the structure to resist corrosion. Additionally, ELK Engineering provides testing, monitoring, and maintenance of existing corrosion control systems and can help clients minimize their risk for corrosion failures by establishing annual monitoring and maintenance programs.

The ELK Engineering senior staff certification meets the requirements of “corrosion expert” as defined by the US EPA and under 40 CFR 280.12 of the Code of Federal Regulations.

Pipeline Induced AC
In the last three to four decades, the incidence of joint occupancy of the same right-of-way by one or more pipelines and power lines has increased.  Such joint use produces significant induced AC effects on the influenced pipelines.  These effects may create electrical hazards to pipeline facilities and to personnel who may come into accidental contact with the facility.

Pipeline Integrity Management
ELK has positioned itself to act as the Integrity Management (IM) Department for small to medium sized pipeline systems who do not wish to establish an IM staff in-house. We can offer a wide range of services in support of each pipeline company’s in-house activities.
