Basic Concepts of Induced AC Voltages on Pipelines

The subject of an article published in 1995 is more relevant today than ever before due to increased metropolitan and infrastructure growth. Earl Kirkpatrick, Chief Engineer at ELK Engineering was far ahead of the “curve” on this subject and remains so today.

The phenomena of induced AC on pipelines sharing a common right-of-way with overhead high-voltage electrical transmission power lines is discussed. Basic concepts and techniques for personnel safety and some pipeline protective measures are reviewed.
